Why Do-It-Yourself to Maintain Your Car?

Going to car shop costs money. And I do not have to tell you how much. From car detailing products to services applied, it’s not pretty for your wallet. At some point, I am certain that you have found out for yourself that more often than not, car maintenance is never cheap.

If you are the guy who wants to do some hands-on job, I may have some advice and tips for you to save some bucks and add some skills to your handyman side.

Now, why go DIY?

While at first, the cost might be almost the same as what you might be spending on a car shop, the catch here is that when you buy car detailing products and tools, it will not just be used one time.

The tools, for example, can be used multiple times and that will greatly cost you a lot of money being saved for other stuff.

Where can I buy car detailing supplies?

There are a lot of shops in the market that are offering all types of stuff that claims to help you with your car maintenance and detailing jobs. But the best place to buy car detailing supplies is always the one that you have trusted for quite some time. It may be the one that is in your neighborhood, your preferred car shop or you can do like I did—bought from a trustworthy online shop and had my stuff delivered at my doorstep.

Need to know stuff

So, here’s where I give you some tips that you might or might not know yet about your car.

1.Wash your car as often as you can.

Because your car’s greatest enemies are sun and dirt, you do not have much of a choice if you want to prolong your car’s magnificent look.

When washing, always start on the wheels. Then after lathering to your wheel wells, head straight to the roof of your car. Next are your windows then the hood, trunk and the doors. Yes, in that order.

A word of advice; never use cotton rags. Use mitts for washing and rinsing your car and waffle weave microfiber cloth for drying. And also, never use detergent soap as it will remove the wax coat on your car’s paint.

2. Clean the glass parts

Again, use only microfiber cloths. If you only have cotton towels, chances are, you won’t be able to fully clean the surface perfectly.

3. Cleaning up the interior

For leather stains, always follow up with a leather conditioner after every cleaning session. Also, use wax on door jams.

Woolite mixed with water (6:1) is your best, inexpensive and safe solution when cleaning the interior part of your car. And it’s also good for leather.

Some tips worth mentioning are:

In case you are bringing your vehicle to a car wash, never choose the ones that are using rubber, felt strips or even vinyl to touch your car. They have the potential to mar the clear coat on your vehicle’s finish.
